King Pehar in an absolute sense is an emanation of the five Buddhas and in ordinary (common) sense appears as a Deity, Protector Pehar. He is a non-Tibetan worldly protector who was oath-bound by Guru Rinpoche in the 9th century and appointed primarily as a guardian of Tibet's Samye Monastery. According to some Tibetan Buddhist scholars, Pehar is the supreme protector of all Worldly Buddhists.
